Joy Dumpling is a Taiwanese restaurant in Cupertino that draws locals looking for authentic, comforting dumplings and noodle dishes in a straightforward, no-frills setting. The space inside is roomy enough to handle busy meal times without feeling cramped, though waits are common during peak hours. This makes it a good spot for casual lunch or dinner outings when you’re ready to savor classic Taiwanese flavors without the long haul of a more elevated dining experience.

The focus here is definitely on dumplings, especially Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) that tend to be larger and juicier than what you might find at bigger chains. The dumpling wrappers are thin yet sturdy enough to hold a juicy filling, offering a satisfying balance that keeps many regulars coming back. Options like pork with crab meat and shrimp with loofah provide some variety beyond the standard pork dumplings. Beyond dumplings, dishes like the braised beef noodle soup and dry sauteed string beans highlight simple, well-executed Taiwanese cooking emphasizing bold, homey flavors more than refined technique.

This place works well for groups or individuals craving a taste of Taiwan’s street-food comfort fare without pretense. Service tends to be efficient and friendly, matching the vibe of a bustling neighborhood eatery where orders come out quickly—a necessity when a table fills up fast. Vegetarians can find choices like vegetarian dim sum and stir-fried greens, rounding out the menu for various tastes.

If you’re stopping in, earlier or non-peak hours might offer a more relaxed timing to enjoy a leisurely bite, though the energy during busy stretches adds a social buzz as families and professionals alike gather here for familiar flavors. The location on South Blaney makes it an accessible go-to for Cupertino locals looking for a quick, satisfying meal that stays true to Taiwanese roots without the fuss.

Was craving soup dumplings so we came to this spot. Got A2, Juicy pork dumplings w/ crab meat. E6, Mongolian cumin beef and K8 seafood and pork chow mein. All were great but for sure the favorite was the soup dumplings. Easily could have ordered extra and only this dish if we didn’t want variety.

My wife said this is the best Xiao Long Bao in Bay Area. Tastes close to the on in Taiwan. I ordered the Redbeans pancake every time when I visited Joy dumpling. Vegetarian menu available.

We had the Beef Noodle Soup and Pan Fried Pork Buns. The broth was really tasty. The beef was a little chewy but had good flavor and the noodles were standard for non handmade. It wasn’t spicy at all. The Pork Puns were very tasty.

Some of the best soup dumplings I've had in the area. Their other dishes are also pretty good, especially their beef noodle soup. Their Stir-fried vegetable dishes were tender, especially the pea shoots. Service was friendly, and food came out fast. Prices were reasonable. I'd definitely come back.

This place is spacious inside. If you come during peak time, there's usually a line. Their food comes quickly, so the wait usually isn't too bad. The XLB is juicy inside and the dumpling size is bigger than Ding Tai Fung's. I'd say the skin is as thin and comparable to Ding Tai Fung's too. We tried all three kinds: the regular pork ones, pork with crab meat, and the shrimp with loofah squash. They're all good. The flavor of the three-cup chicken is good, however, too many bones. They chopped the chicken with bones and there were fragmented bone pieces. You'll need to be careful when eating this dish. Their steamed beef dumplings are good, but a bit on the salty side. The sliced beef and cucumber roll with green onion pancake is so-so. Only has one thin slice of beef and there's not enough meat inside, compared to other restaurants I tried. Their fried rice are tasty. We tried a few before and they're all decent. The picture below is the Sakura Shrimp fried rice and it's very flavorful without being too salty. The steamed sole fish (filet) is surprisingly good. Worth a try if you haven't ordered this before, and no fish bones! Their scrambled eggs with prawns is good. A lot of prawns and tasty eggs. A good protein dish. Their sauteed veggies are pretty good too. We tried the sauteed A-choy and bitter melon with garlic. Both dishes are decent. The boiled tofu with house special sauce is excellent. If you don't want to wait for long line at Ding Tai Fung, this is the place to come. Of course if you want way better (Americanized) service, go to Ding Tai Fung. This service at this place is like typical authentic Chinese restaurants, don't expect too much.

We have visited this place a few times in the past. My husband loves their dumplings and thinks it’s the best in the area. I go for their fried bitter melon w/garlic and the thick green onion pancake (Yi-lan style). This is the only place I would eat the bitter melon. It has the right balance of crispness, garlic flavor, and a hint of bitterness. Green onion oil chicken is delicious and fresh.
